Violent Drum Recordings was formed by Matt Frost and Pete Diggens in 1993, in a one room garage behind a row of shops in South East London.
Frost and Diggens released a stream of vinyl on own imprint Violent Drum and finished when Matt and Pete were discovered by Andrew Weatherall at Sabresonic which led them to sign to Leftfield’s Hard Hands label in 1997 as Dark Globe.
Along the way, their filthy breakbeat funk has soundtracked ‘Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life’, produced and performed the music for the Versace Autumn collection in Milan, they’ve delivered inspired remixes for the likes of George Clinton, Orbital, Black Grape, Amanda Ghost, Imogen Heap, Two Lone Swordsmen, Smudge All Stars, Boy George and if you profess to know your dance music history then you’ll know that Dark Globe are responsible for making the first ever breakbeat record, ‘Mondo Scuro’.
Violent Drum’s output connected with dance music lovers worldwide. Various tracks made compilation albums, hit charts and graced the sets of the world's top DJ’s. DJ's and artists Colin Dale, Coldcut, Paul Oakenfold, Laurent Garnier, Joey Beltram, Billy Nasty, Fabio Paras, Leftfield, Dave Angel, Darren Emerson, Carl Cox, Dave Clark, DJ Three, Sasha and Digweed, Terry Farley and Andrew Weatherall regularly played Violent Drum records.
